Twenty couples were on the dance floor celebration at
the Galveston Country Club
last evening during the dinner dance that is
held weekly at the club. Before dancing
to music rendered by Lanes Orchestra,
a nine-course dinner was served to
the following parties, Mr. and Mrs. J. W.
Butler hosts, to guests, Mr. and Mrs. S. D.
Reid, Mrs. P. M. Lamberton, of Brownsville,
Lieutenant and Mrs. X. J. Camiade, of Brownsvllle,
Lieutenant CarL Weller, and Sergeant worth Jones, of Brownsville,
and Harvard Walker, of Temple. Mr. and
Mrs. E. R. Allen, George Sykes, Gladys
Kempner, and Josephine Armstrong, were
entertained by E. D. Cavin. Miss Priscilla
Rogers, and John Frenkel, were
guests at the dinner. Next week's dance
will be held Monday evening as usual.
Dr. and Mrs. F. W. Aves, entertained a party of young people last evening with a bathing and dancing party at the Crystal Palace with an elaborate luncheon served on east beach. Following the luncheon, the party ended the evenings enjoyment with dancing on the Crystal Palace roof garden. Marriage Announcement Mr. and Mrs. Douglas S. Montgomery, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their sister, Miss Marian Leleux, to James A. Laing, of Galveston. The bride elect is the daughter of the late Charles Leleux, and of Mrs. Leleux cow, of Warwick, England. Mr. Laing, who is a native of Scotland, is associated with Captain J. C. Grant, Lloyds survevor, and is well known among shipping interests throughout the state. During the war Mr. Laing, was engaged in special work for the British government. The wedding will take place the latter part of this month. Miss Carrie Brown, will be entertained this afternoon from 3 to 6 o'clock in the parlors of the Lasker Home for Homeless, by the lady board of managers with a kitchen shower. Miss Brown will be married to Fred Wimmhurst Jr., Wednesday. July 14. E. W. Baughan who for the past few months has been traveling in Europe, has arrived in Galveston to join his wife. They will spend the remainder of the summer at 2002 Twentyfifth street. Mr, and Mrs. E. H. Thornton, and family and sister, Mrs. Lucy Kimbell, of Tulsa, Ok., returned home after a weekend house party spent at Sylban Beach. Mrs. L. S. Kimball, and daughter, Mary Louise, of Houston, accompanied them home and will be their guests for the week. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Horlock, of Hearne, who have been the guests of Mr.and Mrs. W. F. Bookman,left yesterday for a short visit at La Porte. Then they will make an automobile tour of the state, visiting the cities of Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Waco, Dallas, and Fort Worth. Friendswood, Tex., April 15. Mr. and Mrs. K. L. Harvey, and children were Alvin visitors Tuesday and Houston visitors Wednesday. Miss Bernice McClure, was in Galveston Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Allmon, were Houston visitors Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Hoover, and Mrs. K. H. Bereckhemer, were in Alvin Wednesday. Miss Violet Karl, of Kemah is the guest of Mrs. W. T. Smith. Miss Naomi Brown, was an Alvin visitor Thursday. Dr. W. E. Fruit, county demonstrator was in Friendswood Thursday. Miss Vivian Ricker, who is known here as the guest of Mrs. Oscar Bupre, and who has given various readings over the city, will be one of the favored numbers on the program of her class to give a recital in Houston on April 1. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Peters, spent yesterday in Alvin, returning in their car late in the afternoon. Miss Willie Belle Jackson, of Gainesville, Ga,. arrived last night for a visit at the home of Rev. J. P. Robertson. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reifel, have recently returned from a trip to Chicago, where they were entertained by friends. Mrs. Mabel Hoffman, of Texarkana, Tex,. is the guest of Mrs. George B. Ketchum, for several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Neal, of Houston spent Sunday here, the guests of Hotel Galvez. Mrs. Stephen Sgitcovich, is visiting in New York. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Eckman, and baby daughter, Mildred Branch, of Wichita Falls, are visiting in the city for a few days. Mr. Eckman, is well known in Galveston, having been engaged in the clothing business here for a number of years. Mr. and Mrs. Otis Harlan, who have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Ladd, have suddenly been called home by the serious illness of their son, Paul Harlan at Spokane, Wash. Mrs. James Reid, and Mrs. Frederick M. Burton, will entertain with a lawn party on the lawn of Mrs. Reid's home, 3015 Avenue M, this afternoon from 3 to 7 o'clock. The public is cordially invited to be present. The event is given for the benefit of the planting fund of Trinity Episcopal Church. Homemade cookies and tea will be served, donated by the committee on planting. The garden is one of the most attractive spring gardens seen here. A variety of flower plants which have been grown in Mrs. Reid's attractive garden will be sold, among which are poppies, Chinese pinks, larkspur, salvia, geranium, maidenhair fern, marguerites, pansies and roses. In addition cut flowers will be sold. The garden itself is especially beautiful with masses of growing sweet peas, which are worth seeing, Mrs. Burton said. Miss Mary Tantillo, was honored with a delightful birthday party by her mother, Mrs. C. Tantillo, at their home at 3603 Avenue Q. The event being her eighteenth birthday. The home was decorated in pink and white flowers and many ferns. Many beautiful gifts were received by the honoree. The evening's diversions consisted of dancing, the music being rendered by Browns Six Piece Orchestra. Refreshments of fruit punch, lemonade. Ices and cakes were served. The birthday cake was cut during the evening and much merriment caused by the favors which were drawn as follows, Dime Samuel, Parker button, Angelo Pete horseshoe, Inrica Cesari Thimble, Mrs. J. Drefus. Mrs. Charles Riefel, entertained yesterday afternoon with a bridge luncheon in honor of Mrs. Otis Harlan, of Taylorsville, Il., who is the guest of Mrs. O. E. Ladd. The event was held at Gaidos Cafe on the Boulevard when five tables for the game were decorated in March 17 colors. St. Patrick's Day designs were carried out through the entire event with green as the color scheme for the prizes and luncheon later served at the tables, in two courses. A handsome prize was given. The high score was won by Mrs. N. E. Brown, the second prize fell on Mrs. N. Ballich, consolation, Mrs. E. Tracy, and low score, Mrs. 0. F. Reifel.
