The January meeting of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held last night after the Week of Prayer Church service at the home of Mrs. Beryl Seanor of School street. Attorney Gilbert S. Parnell spoke on the subject, "Communism Within and Without the U. S." Mr. Parnell gave very pertinent information on the subject and emphasized that Church, School, and Home, are the bulwark of this country. The speaker was introduced by Mrs. Lawrence Redding, chairman of the National Defense Committee. Mrs. DeWitt Ray, the regent, conducted the business meeting. Delegates and alternates elected to the Continental Congress to be held in Washington, D. C. April 17-21 inclusive were: Mrs. Clarence Watson, Mrs J. M. Frye, Mrs. G. G. Hill, Mrs. J. S. Couser and Miss Helen St. Clair. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Seanor.

Mrs. Todd R. Boden of Saltsburg Road had as house guests for the holidays her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Brask of Ann Arbor, Michigan. They returned home Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. James F. Penney returned Sunday to their home in Harrisburg. James is a teacher of political science at Penn State Center. They were called home two weeks ago by the illness and death of James father. Guests in the Penney home on Sunday were Robert Johns, and Thompson Leiber of Pittsburgh.

Mr .and Mrs. Robert Walker of Station avenue have returned to Indiana after spending the Christ- mas holidays with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Burnell Walker, and young son, Richard, of San Antonio, Texas. During their three weeks vacation, the Walkers drove over 3600 miles, traveling to San Antonio via the southwestern states and returning via southeastern route.

Mrs. W. R. Wissinger, Mrs. Ernest Henry and Mrs. John Johnston, of Indiana, were called this morning to Youngstown, Ohio, because of the death of their nephew, Graham Small of that city.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Smith of Cleveland, Ohio, spent the New Year's holidays with Mr. Smith's grandfather, Mr. Clarence Carney of North Second street.

Dean and Mrs. Walter Whitmyre have returned to Indiana after spending Chirstmas with their son-in-law and daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Johnson of Buffalo, their son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. George Whitmyre, Cleveland, and son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Whitmyre of Youngstown.

Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Dezaiffe and family of Baltimore, Md., were visiting for several days during the holidays in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Dezaiffe of Grant street. Both Dezaiffe families drove to Ginter, Clearfield County, where they visited with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dezaiffe and other relatives.

Frank Cunningham of Venice, Florida, a resident of 743 Wayne avenue, Indiana, was admitted to the Sarasato Hospital on Christmas Day where he underwent operation for thrombosis of the leg. His condition is favorable. Frank was a former engineer with the Pennsylvania Department of Highways here. He and his sister, Miss Bess Cunningham have been spending th« winter months in Florida.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Huffman of Zanesville, Ohio, announce the marriage of their daughter, Roberta Jean, to Robert W. Friel, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Friel of 520 School street, Indiana, Friday evening, December 16th. The single-ring ceremony was performed in St. John's Lutheran Church of Zanesville by Reverend Louis H. Valbracht. The bride wore a street length dress of egg shell crepe with black accessories and an orchid corsage Mrs. Friel was graduated from the Lash High School, Zanesville and is employed by the General Electric Company of that place. Mr. Friel was graduated from Montgomery High School and is veteran of World War II. He is now employed by the Sandra Coal Mining Company. The bride and groom are residing at 413 Putnam avenue, Zanesville.

Mrs. James Blair of South Sixth street was hostess yesterday afternoon to the regular meeting of the Tuesday Duplicate Bridge Club.

Mr. and Mrs. Alva E. Learn of near Cookport had as their New Year's guests, their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Shank and daughter, Avinelle, and son, Leon, of Pittsburgh, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McMahan and sons, Grant, Fred and Dean of Clymer, also Mr. and Mrs. Ord Stiffler and son, Grant and daughters, Marie and Sandra, Johny and Dickie Rethi from Barr Slope and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bair and sons, Bob and Ron of Love Joy.

Second Lieutenant Lloyd E. Wymer spent his Christmas leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Wymer, Sr., of Creekside. Lloyd expects to be sent to Yokohama, Japan, after completing his schooling at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, the last of January. His brother, Jack, who is in the Navy and stationed at Key West, Florida, was unable to be home but called his parents December 26th.

Our lucky deer hunters in this section were Kenneth Millen, Mead Millen, J. B. Blakely, W J. Craig, Max Craig and Teddy Rupert. Max Craig, who has been a patient in the Indiana Hospital, expects to be released soon.

Mr. and Mrs. Leisering and family spent a day recently with relatives near Pittsburgh.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Couch were guests at a family gathering Monday.

Miss Erma Campbell spent her va- cation with her parents near this place.

Miss Ethel Mull spent the Christmas vacation at home.

The funeral of Mrs. Ella Ray Lowman was held at the Shelocta U. P. church.

Arthur Wilson of near Pittsburgh was a caller at the W. J. Craig home Monday.

Lisle Rupert spent his vacation at his home.

Mr. and Mrs. Rupert have purchased a team of horses with which they expect to do the farm work this coming season.

MF. and Mrs. Edd Dorr and sons spent Christmas with the latter's family near here.

Mr. and Mrs. Clair Millen and daughter of Apollo were recent guests with the former's mother.

Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Craig spent Christmas with the latter's sister, near Clarksburg.

Mr. and Mrs. John Craig are receiving congratulations on the arrival of a young son, in their family.

Mr. and Mrs. John Campbell and family were recent callers with the former's parents.

The Ladies Missionary Society of West Union and Olivet met at the home of Mrs. Thomas Campbell and had a fair attendance.

Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Craig had a lot of calls of their family during the Christmas season.

Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Walker were recent callers with Indiana relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Clair Weiss had a number of their family for Christmas.

Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Fyock were callers with relatives in Indiana dur- ing the vacation period.

Mrs. Myrtle Hellman spent the week-end with her sister, Mrs. Millen.

Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Craig had as their guest Monday (Christmas), most of their family.

Mr. and Mrs. Dick Craig had a number of guests during the holiday week.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Readinger and son, were guests recently with the former's parents.

Mr. and Mrs. George Kaschak and daughter, spent a day with relatives during the holidays.

Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Craig were guests at the Bostoch home near Clarksburg on Christmas.

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Leisenring and family were guests with relatives near Pittsburgh during the holiday season.

Mrs. James C. Boatright and daughter, Rebecca June, arrived In Honolulu, T. H., December 12 at 8:00 a. m. aboard the M. S. T. S. General H. W. Butner. They were met on board by Mrs. Boatright's husband, who has been in Honolulu since September. Mrs. Boatright, formerly Inez Griffith of Indiana, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Griffith.

Mrs. C. A. Pennington, her daughter Dorothy, and Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Lightcap drove to Baltimore early Saturday to visit friends. They continued on to Washington Saturday evening where they spent New Year's Eve. Dorothy left Washington Sunday to return to Elon College, Elon, N. C., where she is a teacher of Music. Mrs. Pennington and the Lightcaps made a short tour of Washington Sunday afternoon and then returned home Sunday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. George Robeson of 526 School street, spent two weeks during the Christmas and New Years holidays, with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. R. Russell Fayles and two children, Susan and Pat, in Coatesville.

Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Stiffler and sons, Freddy and Bobby, of Toledo, Ohio, were New Year's week-end guests in the home of Mrs. Stiffler's mother, Mrs. Hary Layman of South Fifth street.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ray and children of Brookville, spent the New Year's week-end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clark E. Ray Of Wayne avenue, and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Barry of Church street.

Dr. Curtis Long of School street, who is ill with pneumonia in his home is improving, but will be confined to his home for several days.

S-Sgt. Donald B. Fairman and wife LeJune, son and daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Fairman of Creekside, left Tuesday morning for Chicago. S-Sgt. Fairman is on his way to Tokyo, Japan where he expects to spend the next two years. Mrs. Fairman will remain in Chicago with relatives awaiting word to join her husband in Japan.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bark of Creekside, RD 1, wish to announce the engagement of their daughter, Virginia, to Percy Mohney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mohney of Shelocta. No date has been set for the wedding.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Barry of 517 North Fifth street are the proud parents of a daughter born to them at 2:15 a. m. today in the Indiana Memorial Hospital. The new arrival has been named Dianne.

Miss Margaret Simpson of Marion Center, Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd White of Juneau, Mr. and Mrs. Alva Pearce, daughter, Linda Lou, were Friday evening callers in the home of Reverend and Mrs. N. A. Pearce

Saturday afternoon, members of the Bear Run and Mahoning Congregation gathered at the home of their pastor and his wife, Reverend and Mrs. E. L. McKnight.

Misses Noami and Leon Homan visited Friday afternoon with Miss Bonnie Mouk of Punxsutawney, RD.

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Pearce and daughter, Judy of Buffalo, N. Y., Mr. and Mrs. Norman Pearce of Akron, Ohio, were weekend visitors in the home of their parents, Reverend and Mrs. Pearce. Reverend and Mrs. N. A. Pearce and family attended the funeral services of Mrs. Pearce's father, Mr. Everett B. Brothers on Friday afernoon at the East Ridge Church, near Cherry Tree.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Richardson and family of Punxsutawney, RD, visited with Mr. Richardson's sister Mrs. Pearl Miller, Saturday.

Mrs. John Backora, entertained the sewing circle, and missionary society on Tuesday evening. A delicious lunch was served by the hostess.

The friends of Mrs. J. M. Gilpatrick will be sorry to learn she was in an auto accident, and is in the Hospital in Rochester, N. Y. Mr. and Mrs. Gilpatrick were on their way to see their daughter and family to spend Christmas. Mrs. Gilpatrick is suffering from a number of broken bones.

Charles Gromley and sister Isabell returned to Lexington, Ky Tuesday where they are students at the Uni- versity of Kentucky. They spent the past two weeks with their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Work.

Edward Snyder of Rochester Mills accompanied Charles and Isa- bell on their return to Kentucky, where he is also a student.
