Mr. and, Mrs. E. G. Sloan visited Mr. and Mrs. I. L. Sloan of Statesville, route 1, recently. Mrs. J. S. Marlin and Mrs. O. C. Sloan visited Mrs. W. N. Padgette recently. Mrs. E. E. Lackey spent last week in Winston with her son, Mr. Lackey and Mrs. Lackey, and her daughter, Mrs. R. Y. Sharpe. Mrs. Alonzo Barnette of Statesville is spending some time with Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Hayes, the latter her daughter. Professor and Mrs. L. N. Summers have moved into the residence which they purchased from Mr. and Mrs. Tom Matlock, who have moved to Taylorsville, and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Lackey have moved into the residence formerly occupied by the Summers. Mr. and Mrs. Wade H. Williams and Mrs. Eugene Williams of Charlotte spent Sunday here and were accompanied home by Miss Sue Linney, who will spend some time there. Rev. John L. Wells will preach at Linney Grove church Sunday afternoon at 2:30. He is pastor of the Hiddenite Baptist church. Pvt. David Lackey of Camp Gordon, Ga., is at home on furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lackey. After a visit to Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Fincannon, Mrs. E. J. Childers has returned to her home in Taylorsville. Mr. and Mrs. Brett Patterson have moved into their new home on Cemetery street. Commander Chester Garst Mayo and Mrs. Mayo who have been guests of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Riker, left this morning for their home in Vermont. Rev. W. E. Abernethy is seriously ill. His son, Rev. W. £. Abernethy has called home. Gene Liney was at home from N. C. State College for the weekend. Miss Lydia Daye, who has been ill, is back on duty as teacher of the first grade. A fellowship supper was enjoyed by the Men's class of the Hiddenite Methodist church at the J. S. Payne cabin. Mr. Ralph Thomas is teacher of the class and arrangements were made by Mr. Harve Willitt, ably assisted by members of the class. Mr. Robert Millsaps is en route from his home in California for a visit to his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Patterson and others. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Baker and family and Mr. and Mrs. Sloan of Union Grove spent Sunday with their parents, Mr., and Mrs. Jim Baker. They came especially to be with their father on his eighty-third birthday. Mrs. C. E. Carson and son, Earl, are patients at Davis hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Grade Gilreath and Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Gilreath spent the week-end in Keysvalle, Va., with Mr. and Mrs. Gaithe Gilreath. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hines of Winston visited Mr. Hines parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hines, recently. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Childers visited Mr. and Mrs. George Childers near Lenoir recently. Miss Lucy Hager of Charlotte spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gussie Hager. Mr. J. K. Patterson and Mr. Henry Wilson visited Mr. H. G. Sloan recently. Mrs. Cora Guy is spending a while with her daughter, Mrs. Wayne Baker, and family. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Teague visited Mr. and Mrs. Robert Branton Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Gussie Hager and daughter, Martha Sue, also visited in the Branton home Sunday.
