Mrs. E. H. Ripley is ill at her home on Ashland street.

Miss Clara Ray returned today from a few weeks visit with friends in Fitchburg.

Miss Maude Boughton of Hall street has accepted a position in C. H. Mather's store, which was formerly W. H. Sperry & Co's.

Mrs. Donica has returned after an absence of several weeks in Pawtucket, R. I.

Mrs. Joseph Grindy of 12 Frederick street will sail Saturday on the Umbria of the Cunard line, for Manchester, England, having been called there by the illness of her mother.

Mrs. A. C. Houghton and daughter, Miss Susie Houghton, will return this evening from New York, where they have been spending the past few days.

Charles Duso, telegraph operator at the Wilson is in New York city for a few days.

Rev. George Whitehouse, a graduate of Newton seminary will preach at the Baptist church Sunday.

J. Tyrrell of Wolcott, N. Y., is the guest of his brother, A. R. Tyrrell.

W. H. Wheeler and daughter Mrs. Julia Payne of Geneva, Ohio, have moved to town and will live at S. W. Curtis'.

A Baptist Cottage prayer meeting will be held at A. T. Viner's tonight.

Arthur Martin and Nelson Martin of this town are among the number ot pupils who will compete for admission to the final contest this afternoon at the high school in Adams.

Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Jewett of North Adams are visiting at D. F. Bucklin's.

Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Blood and daughter Anna of Albany, N. Y., are guests at E. W. Blood's.

B. W. Washburne of Woonsocket, R. I., has succeeded Mr. Kenny as second hand in the dye house live.

Miss Martha Hughes left town Tuesday evening for Chicago, where she expects to spend the winter.

The Father Mathew society is arranging for a dramatic entertainment to be given in the near future.

P. J. Mahoney and wife will leave town this evening to spend a few days with friends in Albany, N. Y.

Mrs. Mary Naughton, 88, died Thursday evening at the home of her son, Matthew, on West Main street.

Mr. Flannagan is to spend the winter with his children in Greenfield, Cummington and North Adams.

Mr. Chaffee and family have gone to Saxton River, Vt., to spend the winter with his daughter.

Mrs. Horace Wells leaves her summer home here to pass the winter as is her usual custom, with her daughter, Mrs. Dr. French, in Pawtucket, R. I.

Miss Mary McCormick is at work dressmaking at Mr. Brainard's at North Adams.

Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Burnett visited his brother and sister, Horace Burnett and Mrs. Clarissa Brown, also their granddaughter at Deacon I. N. Burnett's in Florida last week.

A. N. Burnett has traded horses again. Homer Burnett had one of his horses quite badly injured while at work in the woods last Friday.

Miss Lela Blanchard visited relatives in Adams last week.

Fred C. Bates of Springfield visited at D. Haskins last week. Two of the McCormick Bros, of Windsor were at the same place on Sunday last.

Miss Effie M. Burnett has finished her school and returned home.

Mr. and Mrs. Will Coon have a daughter, born election day. Miss May Burnett is again on the sick list.

Mrs J. Raymond is very sick with pneumonia and pleurisy. She is attended by Dr. Bond of Adams.

Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Burnett visited friends in Florida last week.

J. L. Cain and wife are visiting friends in Hawley.

Mr. and Mrs. Ashton Reed are the happy parents of a little daughter (Katie Smith) born November 1, granddaughter to the late Thomas Reed of Rowe and to O. T. Smith of North Heath.

E. D. Hitchcock has taken the contract to furnish the lumber and put up a barn for Dr. Fisk of Hartford, Conn.

Mrs. Dorcas Gardner, who is boarding at A. F. Morey's in Hancock, rode up to see Herman Hand, October 23. They are the two oldest residents of the town, both being born here in 1803. Mrs. Gardner is ninety-three November 12, is in very good health, has good sight and hearing, and Walks out nearly every pleasant day. Mr. Hand will be ninety-three December 1, has been in good health until the past two weeks, has not been quite as well as usual.

Frederick Hand of Pittsfield accompanied by his cousin Mrs. L. A. Wilson of New Lebanon, spent Sunday with his brother.

Fred Smith of Lenox has been making a visit, at his aunt's, Mrs. Abby Gardner, and his father in South Williamstown.

Orlando Brockway who is working for John White has had two husking bees, getting about 120 bushels of corn husked.

Miss Ostrander has gone to Michigan to spend the winter with friends.

Palmer Young of Pittsfield spent a few days last week with his sister in this place.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lewis will occupy one part of the cottage belonging to Mr. Savage the coming winter. Mr. Lewis' mother is now spending a few weeks in this place.

A daughter was recently born to Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Sanders.
