Columbus, Ohio, November 23
Mrs. Harry M. Daugherty, wife of
the former United States attorney
general, died at midnight at their
town street home here of pneumonia.
Mrs. Daugherty, though an invalid
for many years, had been in better
health this summer than usual. She
became ill last Monday and pneumonia
developed Thursday. She had
been unconscious for two days.
Mrs. Daughertv had not been told
of the death of Mrs. Harding, widow
of the former president. She and
Mrs. Harding had been intimate
friends since girlhood, they having attended
the Cincinnati conservatory of
music together.
Mr. Daugherty reached her bedside
Saturday morning, he having hurried
back from Washington, where he had
been on business, when informed of
her serious condition.
Macon, Ga., November 22. Officers today were still searching for the body of W. J. Dickey, 44, carpenter, who disappeared from home last Sunday and who is still missing. Relatives believe that he has been murdered. Chester Sanderlin and Will Posey, mill operaters, are under arrest in connection with the disappearance of Dickey. C., formerly of Marietta, Ga. The ceremony was performed by Bishop Alex- ander Mann, of Pittsburg, at the home of the bride's parents in the presence of the family and a few friends. Miss Margaret Nelson is in Lexington, where she was bridesmaid at the marriage of Miss Frances Holt Mountcastle and Woodrow McCay, which was brilliantly solemnized last Wednesday evening. The condition of Mrs. Frank H Atlee, who has been critically ill at her home on West Peachtree street remains unchanged. Mrs. Atlee was taken suddenly ill on last Tuesday, and her many friends will be sorry to learn of her serious condition. Mrs.Atlee is one of the prominent Methodist women of Atlanta and is secretary of missions of the North Atlanta district. Mr. and Mrs. J, M. Hooker are in Tampa, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. Dexter North, of Washington, D. C. are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert A Brown, at 17 Highland drive. They have recently returned from their wedding trip of two months in California Miss Frances Templeton and Miss Maude Ashmore were in Athens this week attending'the nurse's convention. Mrs. Rolin Sarrett left recently for her home in Seattle, Wash., after spending two months as the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Spencer, and sister, Mrs. George Daniels. A pleasant event of Wednesday was a luncheon and social meeting of the "Rabbitte club" at the home of Mrs. W. W. Schneider, on Central avenue. Miss Mattie Couch left Friday for Fort Benning, where she visits Captain and Mrs. Roger M. Wilson for a week. Mrs. R. H. Davis, of Austell, spent Tuesday with her sister, Mrs. D. H. Barnett. Mrs. E. A. Humphries has returned from a visit with her daughter, Mrs. Robert Sarlson. in Athens. Mrs. O. J. Ball left recently for Birmingham, Ala, where she is visiting her son, Jeff Ball, and Mrs. Ball for several weeks. An event of Saturday evening was a wiener roast at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Roper, in Virginia park, for the members of the Senior Epworth league. Little Miss Elizabeth Williams entertained a number of friends in honor of her eleventh birthday Saturday afternoon at the home of her parents on Atlanta avenue. Mrs. L. T. Carter will be hostess to the Book club Thursday morning at her homee on Whitney avenue. Miss Levada Martin, of Morrow, Ga., was the recent guest of relatives here. Miss Jane Cagle left Tuesday for Miami, Fla., to be gone for several weeks. Mrs. H. S. Stough, who has been the guest of her cousin, Mrs. J. B. Lyons, for several weeks, has returned to her home in Shorters, Ala. Mrs. S. A. Visanska and Miss Belle Visanska, of Atlanta, have been among the guests this week at the George Vanderbilt hotel, Asheville, Miss Sarah Hurt has recovered from her recent illness and is able to be out. Miss Bessie Martin, of New York is the guest of Mrs. John Marshall Slaon at her home on Peachtree road, and will be here two or three weeks. James D. Palmer, of Jacksonville, Fl., spent the past few days in Atlanta at the Biltmore hotel. Mrs. Rolin Sarrett left recently for her home in Seattle, Wash., after spending two months as the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Spencer, and sister, Mrs. George Daniels.
