Valdosta. Ga., May 7.
Information was received here today of
the killing of Dan Willis, a young
white man, by Joseph Rowan, at Massee,
Ga. It is understood that Willis, who had
been working for Rowan, made a remark
which the latter resented, but
for which Willis promptly apologized.
Later in the day Willis met his employer
at a store at Massee and again
stated that he was sorry for what he
had said, but, instead of accepting the
apology, Rowan is reported to have
drawn a pistol and shot the young man
dead.
Rowan was arrested and carried to
Nashville, where he was put in jail
awaiting a preliminary trial.
