SAN FRANCISCO (UP)—Two
Army officers moved into Southern
Pacific railroad headquarters
today as the government took
over operation of seven California
lines to head off a threatened nationwide
strike. Lt. Col. Leon R. Schinazi, 56
year-old transportation officer,
and Maj. Winant Sidle, 34, assistant
public information officer,
showed up at the S. P. headquarters
and were assigned an office.
They will constitute the entire
staff of the Army's sub-regional
headquarters, taking orders from
the Army regional office in Chicago
The California lines seized are
S. P., Western Pacific,, Santa Fe,
Northwestern Pacific, Union Pacific,
Los Angeles Junction Railway,
and the San Diego and Arizona Eastern.
