Mrs. Maude Hesterly, is ill in West End Baptist Hospital in Birmingham.

Miss Cleeta Moore, of Gadsden spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Moore.

Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Edge, and Dickie, of Birmingham spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Ashwander.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Reid, and son, Benny, of Good Hope, visited here Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. John Bland, of Birmingham visited relatives here Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Henry, of Birmingham spent Sunday with their father, J. T. Thigpen and Miss Ora Thigpen.

Miss Emma Rue Quattlebaum, of Birmingham, spent the weekend at home.

Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Warren, had as their dinner guests Wednesday night, Mr. and Mrs. Gerdies Hines, and daughter, Margaret Ellen, Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Reid, and Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Terry.

Mrs. Lizzie Sims, celebrated her 81st birthday on Saturday, January 22nd, when several friends and relatives surprised her with a birthday cake, ice cream and gifts of money, flowers, and many useful gifts and birthday cards. On Sunday she attended Sunday School and Church and all during the day, friends, and relatives called and wished her a happy birthday. "Aunt Lizzie" as she is called by everyone, is loved by all who know her and had lived a very active, useful life and is a good Christian lady and has been a member of the First Methodist Church of Hanceville for over 50 years. She is still interested in everyone and everything good in her neighborhood and always ready to lend a helping hand to any one in need. Her many friends wish her many more happy birthdays.

The Hanceville Culture Club met Thursday, January 19th, with Mrs. W. C. Quattlebaum, Mrs. J. R. Edmondson, gave a good devotional, after which the club read the Collect in unison. The group sang "Alabama" led by Mrs. C. T. Burkart, at the piano. At the business session, presided over by Mrs. C. T. Burkart, the following members gave short talks on our Federation Work. Mrs. N. D. South, spoke on "Scholarship". Mrs. Clint Warren, urged us to buy more blind-made goods. Mrs. G.A. Green, briefly reported the funds for the Boy's Industrial School in Birmingham. Mrs. G. T. Rowe, asked that we have the Annual Art Collection on exibit at the next meeting. Mrs. J. R. Edmondson, reported briefly on the meeting of our School's Council which she attended in Cullman on Saturday. For our program, Mrs. D. B. Lament, gave several clever short stories on "Southern Folklore" which were enjoyed by the group. The hostess had her home beautifully decorated with Spring flowers. Thirteen members present enjoyed the social hour while good refreshment were served by the hostess.

Jackie Goggans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Goggans, is very ill in the Cullman Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Payne, and Boys, Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Walker, and Girls, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Turner, and Girls, and Mr. and Mrs. Hullon Sizemore, visited the O. I. Walkers, Sunday.

Kenneth Payne, is up after being sick for several days.

Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Farmer, and children visited the Clifton Jones Sunday.

Mrs. Lula Payne, is ill.

Miss Mary Dean Walker, and Miss Geraldine Mangrum, went to Warrior Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred White, and Children are moving back to Berlin.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Parrish, and children visited relatives in Rome, Ga., this weekend.

Prayer meeting will be held at West Berlin Methodist Church each Thursday night with Brother Gus Buttram, holding service.

Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Walker, and Doris Sue and Mr. and Mrs. W. L Walker, and Boys and Junior James, were in Guntersville Sunday.

Mrs. Robert White, was hostess Sunday Afternoon to a group of twenty eight ladies at a stork shower honoring Mrs. J. T. Farmer, wife of the Baptist pastor.

Mrs. O. I. Walker, Mrs. H. R. Payne, and Miss Mary Dean Walker, visited the R. L. Walkers, at Baileyton Tuesday.

Misses Jo Ann Walker, and Sharlene Payne, were honored Sunday at a birthday dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Walker. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Grizzard, and Jane, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Teichmiller, Mr. and Mrs. Joe H. Payne, Mrs. Emma Payne and Brady, and Miss Melba Walker.

Mrs. B. L. Duke, is opening a beauty parlor at her home. Miss Eron Duke, will assist and they will be open sometime next week.

Miss Aileen Parrish, of Birmingham, visited her parents. Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Parrish, this weekend.

Sammy Ray Parrish, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Parrish, is at home after receiving his discharge from the U.S. Navy.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert White, Ann and Bobby and Mrs. John Smith, visited Mr. White's sister in Laurel, Miss., recently.

Cecil Tucker, seems to have bad luck. His house burned, and last week his barn burned up.

Mr. and Mrs. Billy Tucker, are the proud parents of a baby boy.

Mr. and Mrs. Ned Tankersley, were visiting in Logan Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brock, visited her brother Saturday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Styles, visited her mother Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Mancil Tucker, had as their guests Sunday their daughter and her husband, of Birmingham.

Troy Young, and Jess Tackett, Stevie and Doyton Harbison, Bill Garrison, and Homer Alvis, were all out fox hunting Wednesday night.

Calvin Sinyard, and family and Willie Wilcutt, motored to Henry Wilcutt's Sunday afternoon.

Dayton and Annie Harbison, and Bruce were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bermce Tucker.

Elwin Harbison, and Buel Abbott, were out horseback riding Sunday.

Alva Gene Tucker, of Savannah, Ga., was home on a furlough a few days last week.

Mrs. Oscar Wills, visited her mother Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Entrekin, were at Sunday School Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Farris Campbell, visited Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ellenburg, Sunday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Alma Tucker, visited her sister Sunday.

Mrs. Eddison, and children visited Mrs.Prendergast, Sunday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Speegle, visited her mother last Saturday.

Mrs. Oscar Wills, was at Sunday School Sunday.

The Stork Club at the Cullman Hospital features 31 new members this week, seven of which were born on Friday 13. One set of twins, both boys, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Cardis Hardin, Vinemont route 1. The boys had a slight edge 17 to 13 among the newcomers. It was wonderful to hear the famous and beloved General George C. Marshall, who is Chairman of the American Red Cross, speak in Birmingham on Tuesday at the Red Cross, Southeastern Regional meeting. Those from Cullman and Hanceville attending were Mrs. Ida D. Gilbert, M. Turner Steele, Wallace Green, and E. M. Gibbs, all of whom are active workers in the Cullman County Chapter. General Marshal1 spoke so calmly, yet so forceably, that we all came away realizing what a truly great man he is.

We are glad to report that Mrs. C. A. Stiefelmeyer, came home from the Jefferson Hospital on Monday of this week, having been in the hospital since last Thursday. Going down to visit her Sunday were Mr. C. A. Stiefelmeyer, Mr. Charles Kleibacker, and Mr. and Mrs. George Stiefelmeyer Jr.

Reporting a wonderful weekend in Atlanta where they went to visit friends were Mr. and Mrs. Dillard Kinney.

All the Julian McPhillips, are about to recover from the Mumps. Latest one to take them was Mrs. McPhillips, who came down with them just as Mr. McPhillips, got over them. At one time last week four of them were sick.

In Birmingham, Thursday, were Mrs. Bob Young and Mrs. Tom Tiffin.

Mr. and Mrs. Juel Lee, spent several days last week in Birmingham, where Mr. Lee went through Dr Graham's Clinic.

Miss Lollie Jackson, spent the week-nd in Gadsden. She has been ill at her home this week. Her second grade class has been taught by Mrs. Joel Yates.

F. E. St John, spent Sunday and Monday of this week in Atlanta, on business.

Giving a surprise luncheon for Mrs. Leroy Bledsoe, on Wednesday were co-hostesses, Mrs. Elbert Ponder, and Mrs. Leonard Lumsden.

Mrs. Robert Rosson, was out again on Monday of this week after having been confined to her home for the past two weeks with a virus infection.

Mrs. Finis St John, went to Birmingham Tuesday to meet members of her family from various places who had come to Birmingham for a family reunion.

P. G. Harlung, spent Monday and Tuesday in Atlanta.

The young man pictured peering from underneath the blanket is Richard Jeffery Buettner, (Jeff to his friends), son and only child of the W. O. Buettner, Jr.'s, of Cullman. Jeff, who was six months old the 16th of this month, has a big time playing with his dog, Mutt, which his parents gave him for Christmas. According to his mother, the former Bobby Lou Speegle, Jeff is a very good baby, and spends most of his waking hours playing in his stroller or bassinet He isn't particular about his food, either, but eats his cereal, strained food, and takes his bottle willingly. Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Buettner, Sr., of Cullman, and Mr. and Mrs. H. H, Segler, of Panama City, Fla., all claim Jeff as their only grandchild. He also has four great grandparents, Mrs. C. T. Vincant, of Cullman, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Gable, of route three, Cullman, and Mr. Hugo Buettner, Cullman. Although he looks a lot like his daddy, with his large blue eyes and brown hair, Jeff hasn't yet said whether he will follow his footsteps and be a lumber dealer. If so, he will be the fourth generation of his family to follow this profession.

Mrs. R. A. Young, spent Tuesday in Birmingham.

Mrs. Lavert Murphree, entertained at her home on Monday evening with a party honoring Mrs Fred Nixon.

Dr. and Mrs. Sidney Morrow, and Dr. and Mrs. E. G. Plunkett, went to Birmingham to a dinner and dental meeting Monday night. They reported a near accident on the way home as Dr. Morrow, swerved the car to avoid hitting two mules who were wandering up the darkened highway.

Mayor W. J. Nesmith, and William R. Griffin, spent Monday and Tuesday in Montgomery attending the meeting of Municipalities Leaders from the entire State of Alabama.

Mrs. G. W. Bledsoe, and Mrs. Hershall Thompson, spent Tuesday in Birmingham.

Little Jimmy Smith, is able to be back in school this week after a severe case of bronchitis.

We want to help welcome Rev. and Mrs. Andrew Coltharp, of Norfolk, Va. Rev. Coltharp, has accepted the pastorate of the First Baptist Church, and will arrive soon to assume his new duties.

Dr. Voltoner, Dean of the Alabama School of Dentistry, in Birmingham, made a brilliant speech to the Kiwanis Club Tuesday evening. While in Cullman, Dr. Volkner, was the guest of Dr. G. W. Bledsoe.

Mr. O. B. Kilgo, and Miss Peggy Sue Sims, were winners in the spelling bee contest. Congratulations to them.

Mr. and Mrs. Jess Tackett, have moved to Pittsburgh, Pa.

Mr. and Mrs. Troy Young, of this community visited her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Crider, of Nesmith, Saturday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Stevie Harbison, visited her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hall, of near Jones Chapel Saturday night.

We are glad to report Mrs. Dallas Young, is better and able to be at church Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Grady McKoy, were the dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Quattlebaum, Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Moore, and his mother attended church Sunday at the Baptist Church. We were glad to have them visit us.

Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Kilgo, and daughter were in Cullman Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Sinyard, visited Mr. Dayton Harbison, Sunday afternoon, and they all visited Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Harbison, that same afternoon.

The Rev. J. S. Harbison, visited Mr. Dock, Right Sunday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Elenburg, attended preaching Sunday.

Remember the club meeting at Mrs. Wallice Speegle's, Friday, Feb 10th.

Mr. and Mrs. Millard Freeman, have bought the place where Willie Wiecut, lived and are living there.

Mrs. Mary Ellen McAfee Freeman, is teaching school at Trimble.

Mr. and Mrs. Chalmer, visited Elmer Harbison Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Garrison, were at preaching Sunday night.

Everyone around here was sorry to hear about the death of Mr. Henry Pitts, that happened over the weekend.

Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Robertson, of Brooklyn spent the week end with Mr. Arnold Noles and family.

Miss Ruby Fay Hyde, and Etheridge McCullough, were married recently.

Mr. Odas Duncan, and family moved from here recently to Joppa, Alabama.
