to Atlanta after being the guest of
Misses Hattie and Lila Williams,
and Alvis Williams at their home
on Quintard Avenue.
Mrs. T. H. Edmondson, and Mrs. Alfred T. Coleman leave this week for a trip to Rochester, Minn. Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Gabosch, formerly of Erie, Pa., are making their home at McMillian Terrace. Mrs. M. T. Day, is recovering at her home at 1219 Christine Avenue after an operation at Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Thomas B. Faris, (Evelyn McCraw) has returned after a visit with Captain Faris at Panama City, Fla. Thomas Lide Smith, Jr., will return to the University of Alabama today after a visit with his parents on Leighton Avenue. Mrs. George Crowley and Miss Vera Crowley will return today after a visit in Decatur. Two Interesting parties have been planned for the week by Mrs. Wilbur Mitchell Salter, to be held at her new home on Montvue Road. The honored guests on both occasions will be her daughters, Mrs. Jack Frost, (Frances Salter of Birmingham and Mrs. Elam C. Toone, (Adelaide Salter) of Richmond, Va. Mrs. Salter will entertain with a coffee Thursday at 11 o'clock in the morning and she will also entertain in the afternoon. Dr. Rogers McCullough, of St. Louis, formerly of this city, will arrive today for a visit at the Jefferson Davis Hotel. Mrs. Leon Boozer has returned after a stay of several days in Birmingham. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hood, Jr., were the recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Manget in Newman, Ga. Miss Caroline Chapman will return today after a visit in Nashville. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Pope will return today after a visit in Vinson. Colonel and Mrs. Roy E. Marshall, have returned to Fort Benning, Ga., after being the guests of Mrs. S. C. Brackney. Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Hamilton, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hamilton, leave today for a trip to Los Vegas, Nevada. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Crow have named their little son, Frank Olyn Crow, Jr. Dr. L. S. Williams, Harold Nelson and Burt Jackie of Howard College attended the funeral of the late Richard Allen. Anniston friends of Mrs. Leon K. Bowe, formerly of this city, will be interested in knowing that she is making progress with her art in St. Louis. A recent copy of The Kirkwood Messenger, published in the suburb where Mrs. Bowe resides, carried a picture of her, looking at one of her paintings. The subject was a portrait of Commander Booth, founder of the Salvation Army. It was exhibited and it will be hung in the Salvation Army Headquarters in Atlanta. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hooks Lee O'Neal, Mrs. William Boyd, Mr and Mrs. Homer Landreth and family and Mrs. Charles D. Smith of Gadsden, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene B. Landreth and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bussey of Talladega, were in the city for the funeral of the late Richard Allen. Miss Dora Strength and W. B. Strength of Tallahassee, were in the city for the funeral of the late Richard Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Allen. Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Hamilton and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hamilton have returned after a visit with Mrs. Hamilton, Sr., in Sarasota Fla. Mr. and Mrs. William G. French, will return Tuesday after a visit with the former's relatives in Baltimore. Mrs. W. K. McCready, will arrive soon from Richland, Wash., for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Purser, on Forest Lane. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Kay were the recent guests of the latter's parents in Opelika. Mr. and Mrs. John Bradley of Dallas, Texas, are in Memorial Hospital as the result of an automobile accident, while en route to Atlanta. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Purser and Mrs. Catherine P. Richardson are the guests of Miss Dorothy Caudle, in Pensacola, Fla., and they will also visit the Azalea Trail in Mobile. Mr. and Mrs. James H. McCord, and children left yesterday for Kansas City, Mo., after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Snow on Woodstock Avenue. Dr. and Mrs. William Britton, and family of Montgomery are the guests of Mrs. G. G. Britton for the latter's birthday anniversary today. Mrs. William S. Stoney, Mrs. Forrest A. Barker, Mrs. J. A. Douglas, and Mrs. Virgil Scoggins spent Thursday in Birmingham, where they attended a meeting of the State board of the Council of Church Women. Mrs. Scoggins is recording secretary and Mrs. Stoney, president of the local council, is state chairman for the magazine, "The Church Woman." Mr. and Mrs. J. C. A. Hamilton will return today after a visit with their son, Chris Hamilton, at the University of Alabama. They were present for the annual ball of the Delta Chi fraternity at Foster Hall. Mrs. Paul Driggers, underwent an operation Friday at the Baptist Hospital in Gadsden. Mrs. A. D. Bright, has returned from Birmingham, where she underwent an operation at the Highland Baptist Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert J. Saenger, leave today for Tuscaloosa after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Lance Johnson, at The Terraces, on Virginia Heights. Mrs. William Day and daughter, Donna, have returned to Mt. Vernon, Ill., after a visit with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Day, on Christine Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stelpp, Jr., and Miss Mary Lynn Bosworth, have returned after a trip to New York City. They were accompanied home by Mr. and Mrs. Stelpp, Sr., who arrived from Hamburg, Germany, on the S. S. Washington. Miss Florence Bates, will return today after a visit with Captain and Mrs. A. H. Chappell it Fort Benning, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Landreth, Mrs. W. T. O'Neal, Mrs. Henry O'Neal, Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Landreth and son, Olen and Harold Landreth of West Point, Ga., motored to the city for the funeral of the late Richard Allen. Anniston friends will regret to know of the recent death of Ray Shephard, formerly of this city. His death occurred in Paducah, Ky., and burial was in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham. Mrs. Shephard will make her future home at 1208 N. 28th., street in Birmingham. Mrs. Luther B. Liles, is recovering at Foundation Hospital in New Orleans, after an operation. Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Bell, have as their guest, E. H. Mueller of Madison, Wisc. Dr. Houston Cole, president of State Teachers College, made the announcement this past week that Mrs. C. W. Daugette Sr., of Jacksonville, had donated a 40-acre tract of land that has been accepted by the college. It was given in memory of the late Dr. Daugette, who served as president of the college for 42 years, and the tract will be used as a laboratory for study of natural resources. Mrs. Daugette first made known her plans at a meeting of the second region of garden clubs in the Alabama Garden Clubs Association, held in Jacksonville. Mrs. Daugette has long been one of the leading women in Alabama, in club and patriotic organizations. She has served as state president of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and she has held office in the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is a daughter of Gen. John H. Forney, of the Confederacy and her mother was a member of the Rulledge family of South Carolina. On the title page of the last issue of the official magazine of the Alabama Garden Clubs Association, Hortensia, there appeared a picture of Mrs. Daugette and her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Calvert, on the lawn in front of the former's beautiful ante-bellum home, "The Magnolias." The house is more than a hundred years old and has an interesting history. It was built with slave labor by Judge Walker, who married the aunt of the "Galiant Pelham." and it contains many valuable antiques. It has been the scene of gracious hospitality. Mrs. Daugette organized one of the first garden clubs in Calhoun County, the Jacksonville Garden Club, and she is now serving her third consecutive year as president of the club.
